Tips for making a resume that stands out

When applying for a new job, every employee should prepare a good résumé that successfully showcases their abilities and competencies aimed at that work field related to the job being pursued.

Even so, many people still feel insecure when putting together résumés to send to employers because they have no idea where to begin or how to do it in the best possible way in order to stand out. Here are some essential resume-writing tips to get you started.

It is strongly advised for a resume to be no more than two pages long and to be written in a legible font. Even if it presents a less standard layout, especially in jobs related to design, it is critical that the aesthetic part does not overlap with the information that it contains.

A good résumé should clearly present to the employer the reasons why you are qualified for a specific position within that institution and what can you offer them, as well as demonstrating your main strengths and best interests.

If you have no prior experience in the job market, it is recommended that you emphasize in your resume other types of activities, such as volunteer work or leadership and cooperative initiatives in school.

A compelling resume should preferably include brief descriptions of the skills at which the applicant excels. Examples include image editing abilities, writing abilities, proofreading abilities, and so on.

However, it is critical to maintain objectivity. It is not necessary to include additional skills just to make the resume appear longer than it is. Specially if the contract is signed, honesty about the skills that may be required throughout the new job is always more valued.


It can be more interesting to describe the main functions you performed in each of the previous places you worked in a brief summary rather than a simple list in chronological order describing the places.

There is no need for it to be way too lengthy too but should be citing examples of various activities that you took part in, as it can help better demonstrate practical skills. Make it clear what industry, applications, and specialties you have worked with on a daily basis.

Remember that it is never necessary to include information in a resume about the reasons why you left a particular institution. This can be discussed during an interview, but it should never be included on the resume.

Tailoring it

It is beneficial to create a slightly different resume for each application to a specific company and also explain why you are looking forward to work for that specific institution.

Of course, personal experiences and skills will remain the same for all applications, but it may be more interesting for a given position to highlight a particular skill or professional goal than in others.


If it does not make it become way too long, you can include certificates from extra workshops and projects you have completed before within your curriculum.

This is especially recommended if the certificates you have gotten are directly related to the specifics of the position you are applying for.
